How to connect iPhone to a Car without CarPlay?

I have a 2015 Honda Accord Hybrid and a iPhone 16 Pro. My car has never had a problem connecting to any phone and "sees" my iphone but my iphone dos not "see" my car. I can not connect using carplay because my car is 1 year too old to have that. Every time I try to connect the car to my phone from the car bluetooth it fails, I assume because the phone does not see it. I have tried connecting the car directly with the USB to USB C cord but all this does is charge my phone. I have tried pressing the push to talk on the steering wheel but that doesn't work since I don't really have carplay. HondaLink does not seem to support ipones beyond the 13. Not having handsfree use in my car is unacceptable. Is there a workaround or fix?

I use a SONRU Bluetooth transmitter/receiver that pairs with my iPhone 16 Pro Max and then outputs the phone audio via a 3.5 mm audio cable (included) into the car's audio AUX jack. This allows me to play Apple Music+ on the phone that is sent to the entertainment center and plays on the car speakers. My 2011 Saab 9-5 does not allow me to pair audio from the phone via Bluetooth, nor does it support CarPlay, and I was surprised by the excellent battery life and build quality of the SONRU device.
