Changing default map app for navigation

I have always just used Apple Maps for navigation. While driving, I simply ask Siri to "navigate to (desired location)". It has always worked. Suddenly today, I asked Siri to "navigate to (desired location)", and Google maps appeared. The Siri voice said it was "navigating using Google maps", but no directions appeared on the screen, no roads were highlighted, and the map didn't give any indication that navigation was active. So, 1) why did the default map change, and 2), how can I change back to Apple maps, or alternately how can I get Google maps to display the directions? And yes, I have done a Google search with no success.

So my default browser is Safari, and has not been changed. Weird thing happened today - said

"Siri, navigate to xxxxx", and it said the same as a couple of days ago, "Navigating to xxxxx with Google maps". The difference today is it actually did start navigating, which it did not the other day. Since I was just testing, and didn't need navigation assistance, I said "Siri, cancel navigation". She replied "Sorry, I can't cancel Apple Navigation." ****, she wasn't even using Apple navigation!!!

By the way, I'm doing this all using Car Play.

Seems like it wouldn't be that hard for Apple to put a default navigation choice in the settings!
