CarPlay glitches and distorts sound

When listening to music on CarPlay (Apple Music and/or Spotify), the sound always glitches for a second and comes back very distorted. Turning the car stereo off and back on fixes the problem temporarily but it always comes back, sometimes right away, sometimes after a moment.

I run the latest software on the car’s unit and on my iPhone (iOS 18.2), the phone is connected via an original apple cable. The USB-ports are physically intact, I have tried resetting CarPlay to factory settings and soft resetting my phone, deleting the phone from CarPlay and the connection from the phone and then reconnecting it. I also tried disabling background app refresh and shutting down all apps before connecting (somebody suggested that might cause the problem through background processes).

I also reset CarPlay on my phone and even deleted all apps from it but Music and Maps.

Nothing helped.

Any ideas, anyone?
