Can’t open entry door after using phone for games, texting etc

I am using an iPhone 11.

If I am using my phone and someone buzzes me to open the entrance door; it doesn’t work. This happens even when I exit the program I am using before answering.

If my phone is idle and someone buzzes in; it works fine.

I’ve searched my settings and there is nothing that I can find to remedy this.
