How to delete hidden emails in Mail app?

When I try to download Mail I get an action to download old e-mails. There are over 14k and it crashes at the end. I am unable to access mail because of this. How canI delete all those e-mails that I do not know where they are hidden? I am attempting to switch and learn abut the Mail in iCloud but am still learning. All help is appreciated. Have a great day.

I would log into your email providers website in a browser and look to see what you can get rid of.

Sorry this is not about iCloud. It is the normal e-mail not iCloud mail. Can I switch this to just iMAC and e-mail? If so ow do I do that?
