Why does Apple Music stop playing after switching playlists on macOS Sequoia?

From a fresh boot, I can play any playlist but if I switch playlists, it will no longer play anything. It shows a random track playing but there is no audio. Restarting Music does not fix this, only a reboot does, albeit temporarily.

This behaviour started after the upgrade to Sequoia. A fresh install of Sequoia has made no difference.

Music media is stored on an external USB drive, as the library too large to fit on the iMac.

I'd be grateful of any help.

Problem is solved but I'm not entirely clear of the reason.

I renamed the "Music Library.musiclibrary" file in Music and restarted Music.app.

Music.app then created a new empty "Music Library.musiclibrary" file.

I deleted that and renamed the original file to normal, and restarted Music.app.

Music.app started devoid of any playlists but showed the message: "Loading Cloud Music Library" This took a few minutes to populate. Now Music.app behaves as expected.

I am just guessing that there was a mis-match between the local library file and the cloud one.
