iMessages are only SMS and on the wrong groups after upgrade to 18.1

Two things are happening that started today. First, I tried sending a picture on iMessage on my MacBook Air in a thread that I have been sharing pictures for years. It would not send, stating that I can only send SMS messages. This is before upgrading my phone and I have not recently upgrade my MacBook. I do not know if hte iMessage app updated overnight, it's possible.

Second, after upgrading my iPhone 11 Pro Max to 18.1, I started having trouble on other threads. Previously, because all of the members of the thread have iPhones, everything went though as an iMessage. Now, not only do the messages send as SMS, they do not reply on the thread. They go through as a new thread with the same members, and replies come back as individual messages on the original thread.

The same thing is happening to another member of the group who recently upgraded her phone.

One-to-one messages appear to be working properly with pictures and message format when sending/receiving on iPhone and MacBook.
