my iphone 14 pro max has no option for camera settings

Are you using iOS 18? Then the settings for the Camera are at Settings>Camera. The settings for Photos are at Settings>Apps>Photos.

Some settings for Photos are also available at your ID photo at the upper right of the main Photos Window:

On iOS 18, the advanced options for the camera are available, when you open the camera. At the top of the display, in the middle below the green dot, is a tiny uparrow ^. When you tap it to open this menu, the arrow will change to a downarrow and you will be seeing the advanced camera options at the bottom of the display.
