Photos not uploading to iCloud - iPhone 16 Pro

I’m having an issue with my iPhone 16 Pro where sometimes, when I take photos, they don’t upload to iCloud immediately. Instead, they appear as grey thumbnails in the album. This doesn’t happen all the time, but it’s frequent enough to be frustrating. I’ve checked, and I still have plenty of iCloud storage available, so that’s not the issue.

I’ve tried using both my home Wi-Fi and 5G, but the problem persists with both. Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas on what might fix it? I feel like others might be having the same issue.

I wonder what you mean by "immediately." If the phone is busy with other things, then it may take awhile, but not days. The Photos app won't do background operations while you're using it, since that would slow down your work. And background operations slow when the battery isn't optimally charged. So if you want a faster transfer, the best thing would be to use high speed wifi while the phone is plugged in and asleep.

On the other hand, if I really need to quickly transfer a recent picture to my Mac, I use AirDrop.

I mean, the image doesn’t show up in the album—it just appears grey, like the image is broken.
