I want to stop Apple News notifications on my Mac

I am using macOS Sequoia 15.1.

I am getting notifications about individual stories from Apple News and I want to stop these notifications.

I have read all the instructions about how to turn off Apple News notifications but I cannot locate the Apple News app on my Mac. I have searched via Spotlight and also the Applications folder. There is no Apple News app on my Mac.

I considered trying to install the Apple News app from the App Store and then trying to control the notifications but I cannot find the app in the Store. I am in the UK and Apple News is definitely available in this country.

I would be grateful for any suggestions about how to stop the notifications.

Removal of the greyed out or not greyed out News application is not possible - full stop

Not even installing some Third Party Removers or Disk Cleaner can grant your wish

So suggest staying way from this notion that is can be removed

The Operating System, in this case macOS 15.1 Sequoia, resides in a Sealed and Read Only Volume that cannot be opened by the User nor by Third Party Applications.

That means there is some confusion about your location. The computer thinks you are in a region where News is not available.

I would like simply to delete the News.app as I have no use for it but when I drag it to the Bin, it cannot be deleted.

That is not possible. It is part of the operating system. Don't go there. Don't even start.

I have tried several other solutions to try to delete a greyed out app but nothing has worked.

Please never say "I tried everything" or "I tried several other solutions". What were they? Maybe someone has the exact solution, which you haven't tried. But now they won't say anything because they think you've already tried it.

Change your region to somewhere that News is available. Are you using a VPN perhaps? If so, turn that off. It may be confusing your region. If that doesn't work, try the opposite. Change your region to somewhere that you don't have news. Restart. Then change it back to the UK. Again, restart liberally. Maybe try starting in Safe Mode.

You might need to erase the hard drive and reinstall the operating system. While I think the News app is installed, something must be very wrong for you to not even be able to see it.

One thing you can try is to open the Applications folder directly. No, not that one. It's fake. You need to try the Apple Applications folder. In the Finder, choose "Go to Folder" from the Go menu. Enter the following path:

/System/Applications

This will open a Finder window for the Apple applications folder. This folder shows only Apple apps. It is different from the "synthesized" version at /Applications. You should see the News app listed.

However, you also shouldn't have to do any of this. That's why I think you should re-do your installation.

The News application can be removed from iPhone and iPads

Asking to remove the news application on macOS makes me think there is a iPhone / iPad involved using the Same Apple ID Account

If that is so and the iPhone / iPad has Notification ON for News AND to Sync across Devices

That is where the Notifications on the computer could be coming from

Notifications on iDevices can sync to this computer

Turn Off News Notification on the iDevices may solve that issue

I can open it and have checked, re-checked and re-checked again that all Notifications are off. However, the notifications continue to arrive from several channels in the app.
