Case sensitive user ID’s - can they be prevented? Ipad password file full of duplicates.

One web site in my iPad password file had 5 entries and 3 different passwords. My background was with Windows on a pc where this does not happen. Duplicates even end upon hotel booking sites where the userid is part of the account key (step forward hotels.com) leading to booking failures.

Recently I had one such account confirm a booking on my iPad, but the hotel had let the booking go because they had not been notified of our imminent arrival. My beloved iPad was called ‘that silly computer’ by my wife and has since been recovered (surgically). (Well it was very late, hotel was full and we had been travelling all day). Point here is that it isn’t just a matter of having to use ‘forgotten passwords’ more often, duplicate and triplicate accounts can end up being created!

I'm not sure that I fully comprehend your difficulty - in particular in context of the thread title...

Account User-IDs, just like account Passwords, are for the majority of Apps and online services "case sensitive".

The tags appended to your post suggest that you have an iPad mini4 with iPadOS15 installed. Your iPad mini4 is classified by Apple as "vintage" - this being the penultimate step to full obsolescence. The mini4 incapable of update to iPadOS16 or later (noting that iPadOS 18.1 is current) - where stored Password management is considerably more sophisticated.

Perhaps now is the time to consider replacement of your iPad with a much newer model that runs a supported version of iPadOS. If the "mini" form-factor is attractive, the recently released iPad mini (A17 Pro) might be of interest to you - although there are various other models and price-points from which to choose.

Returning to your immediate problem, if the native Password and account management included with iPadOS 15.x is proving to be problematic, perhaps consider using a third-party Password Manager App. While there are many from which to choose, consider exploring Bitwarden:

Bitwarden is a well respected Password Manager App. Its "free" tier is fully functional; it is perhaps unlikely that you will need to consider a "paid" subscription as the free functionality is sufficient for most Users.
