Shared Library Folder mtd1 Expanding on its Own
Hi All,
I'm hoping you can help me with a unique issue on my Mac.
Specs:
MacAir 15 GB Ram
1TB Internal Drive
OS Sequoia v15.1
My computer is generating a file about every 15-17 minutes. This eventually causes my computer to severely slow down.
The directory location is:
Macintosh HD > Users > Shared > mtd1 > Storage Data
The files that are auto generating is called "00000001.dat", then the next would be "00000002.dat" etc. The folder also contains to additional files called "PictureData.dat" and "RecordInfo.DB". Each of the sequentially numbered files is 2.15GB in size. When you open it in Text edit it is gibberish.
I do NOT have the luxury of wiping the HD clean with a fresh install then dragging and dropping my apps and files in one at a time to eliminate the issue. Nor does my Time Machine back up go back prior to the issue occurring.
I've tried to delete the entire "mtd1" folder, it re-apears hours later.
I've tried to change folder permissions to read only, then lock it, and still those .dat files are written to the folder.
I've called Apple about this issue over the last 60 days with no resolution other than, "Wipe the machine and reinstall".
As a temporary fix I'm writing a script that moves the "mtd1" folder 2 times a day to the trash and then empties the bin.
Does anyone have any ideas as to:
- What application could be writing this file?
- How to identify what app is writing this file? (Activity monitor app?)
- How to remedy the issue permanently?
- Steer me in the direction of someone who may be able to help?
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this and for your upcoming advice. Have a blessed day!
