my airpods gen 3 wont charge or connect to my phone

my airpods were working just fine and then i went to connect them to my phone and they wouldn’t connect. they have an amber light which means they aren’t very charged. i left them on charge for over an hour and they didn’t charge at all. i tried changing chargers and outlets but nothing worked. ive tried resetting the airpods and forgetting the device from my phone to try and repair but nothing is working. i dont know what to do
