TextEdit copy-paste not handling formatting as I want

Long ago (Mojave!) TextEdit would copy and paste text from formatted web pages and from PDFs while retaining the formatting. I'm now on Sequoia and when I copy from formatted webpages, TextEdit removes formatting. Paste and Match Style retains some but strips out bold face and coloured text. When I copy from a PDF, TextEdit retains formatting but doesn't let the text flow, i.e. it has fixed line lengths.

Is there a way to retain both formatting and line flow?
