imnport mailbox on my mac

Kind of embarrassed to ask, but...In my mail app, I just realized there is a folder called Import under the On My Mac sidebar. It appears to be duplicates of emails that were in my inbox, or deleted, or other folders. I would think I could just delete them but before I go and do something I could regret, can someone explain what that folder is? I tried researching it, but came up empty.

Thanks.

At some point in the past, possibly distant past, you imported some emails from an archive or another email mailbox. This could ave been brought over from an older system, migrated computer, etc.

I would look inside that import mailbox and see if the emails there are duplicates of emails stored elsewhere, or if they are emails you desire to save or preserve. If not, you can delete the mailbox and/or the emails inside it.
