Gmail iPhone notes disappeared

I recently upgraded from my iphone 11 to a 16. When I checked the notes app on my new phone, the notes stopped at 2022 despite the fact I frequently use the notes app, there were so many missing notes. I thought maybe this new phone had synced with a different notes account that I hadn’t used since 2022, but this wasn’t the case, my iPhone 11 had these exact notes from 2022 but also had hundreds of notes from after that point.

I Googled the problem and someone had recommended going into Settings > Notes > Accounts and resetting the gmail account by unsyncing it and syncing it to retrieve the notes, this made the situation worse as now the iPhone 11 also only has notes up until 2022.

So now I’ve just lost loads of important notes and there’s no fix? It’s not an iCloud issue with storage and it’s not a separate account as when the problem first occurred I could clearly see on my old phone that the notes stopping at 2022 on the iPhone 16 were in the same section as the missing notes.
