iMac, Sequoia M1 chip; purchased sheets for students to study for music theory exam. All of a sudden I can't save them to a folder on my computer or even to a downloads folder.

Have you already updated to 15.1 yet? If not try that to see if it helps.
I have 15.1 and it doesn't help in fact I think that's when the problem started.
Does the actual folder for the download have a null ␀ character in its name?
