Apple Mail trash not showing content of selected email from discussion lists like this one

This is happening on my iMac running Monterey and my newer MacAir running Sequoia.

I am using Apple Mail.

This is an issue with the Trash box.

I get mail from several mailing lists... Apple Discussions and others.

When several emails come into Apple Mail from the same list as part of the same issue, they have the same title (obviously) but different time/date. I delete them to the trash.

When I go to trash and click on one, it shows... well and good.

When I click on the next one the content pane does not change. Same when I click on a third. The system thinks they are all the same email (the first one.)

Now listen to this. If I click on a different email in trash and then go back and click on an email for the list it shows. But the next one does not show when clicked.

It seems as if Apple Mail has some issue with mail from the same mailing list with the same title... even if the dates are different.

If I want to see the email I have to either go to a non-list mail and come back... OR I can double-click it to open it in a new window

I've researched this a lot and can't find anything about it or even some setting I might have that is causing it. I don't use filtering or rules.

Note: None of the above happens in the Inbox.

Any ideas?
