Apple TV device dropping wifi

All other devices are working continually on the WiFi signals with no interruption… for 2 weeks now, Apple TV loses signal stops playing from the iTunes library … then says can’t find lib. etc… And few minutes later reconnects.

I have tried EVERYTHING… unplugged device, Reset device, unplugged router, Reset Router, DISCONNECTED all other devices except Apple TV and the PC - same thing few minutes of playing then loses signal.

Did you forget the previous network, then connect to the 5Ghz one so it does not resort to the other one? The 3 devices within 12 inches of each other is where interference is created that wreaks havoc on the 2.4Ghz band. You are much better off with the 5Ghz only band network.


  • Do you get any additional information when checking network status at Settings > General > Network > Test Network?
  • Since your Apple TV is so close to your router, have you tried testing by connecting it directly with Ethernet cable?

Thank you for your help, here are some answers:

  • Yes I did forget the other networks
  • the 12” interference makes a lot of sense, but it same with a PC in another room (of course TV still close to router)
  • MAIN good news, just saw a NEW update arrived to my Apple TV … and it’s working fine for about 40 min. now :-) … I pray it continues

Make sure you are using a 5Ghz band for Wifi. Dual band routers broadcast both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz on the same SSID network and devices are more likely to connect to the 2.4Ghz band. While the 2.4Ghz band has better range, it suffers from poor bandwidth and susceptible to interference causing the connection to drop. If possible create a 5Ghz only network on your router and connect your Apple TV to that network.
