Can I Disable the Audio Sharing feature on iOS and iPadOS to prevent getting spammed by the notification pop-ups due to people fidgeting with their AirPods case.

I was recently on a flight trying to watch a movie on my iPad and another passenger was fidgeting with their AirPods case constantly opening and closing it. This resulted in constant interruptions to my movie by the audio sharing pop-up. The flight was almost over by the time I found out who it was and my viewing experience was ruined. Really frustrating!!!

Is there an option to disable this feature and prevent this annoying pop-up spam from appearing unless I actually intend on sharing audio with someone.

Thanks

The other person's AirPods were trying to connect to your iPad via Bluetooth. I tried testing my iPad to stop it from being discoverable ... meaning someone else's AirPods could not ask for permission to connect every time they opened the lid. But as long as Bluetooth was on, the iPad was discoverable. I then tried turning Bluetooth off, but then my AirPods were not connected and I could not use them.

Unless someone else in these forums comes up with a better solution, here is an "out-of-the-box" solution. To ensure uninterrupted listening pleasure, put your AirPods away, turn off Bluetooth and connect a $20 pair of wired earbuds. I own these from apple. I use them when I am in a situation where I may easily lose my AirPods - like out on a kayak. They are a simple solution for me.

Thanks for your response and suggestion.

I do own a pair of over-ear noise cancelling headphones with an audio jack that I could use with an adaptor.

Still hoping for a solution or software update that would disable the "always discoverable" state of my bluetooth enabled devices.

I already found it annoying that enabling bluetooth continuously broadcasts my device name to my immediate vicinity.
