Issue of Topping up ICOCA using Apple-Pay

Encountered problems when topping up my ICOCA card in Japan using Apply Pay (visa card), the error msg I got from the process was 'Payment Not Completed'. The issue is, I have previously had successful top ups using the same method... that's why it's so confusing and I wonder why out of sudden it couldn't be completed anymore...some help pls...

When you use Apple Pay it’s a much more secure and private process. Apple Pay doesn’t use the same 16 digit account number that the physical card or chip uses, as one example.


Japan is an early adoptee of dynamic CVV2 codes, which US banks are slow to adopt. I suspect your bank is not implementing or has not switched it on for the card you used with Apple Pay. This has been an issue for the last year or so in regard to Japanese transit cards.


I’d discuss it with your banks Apple Pay support team and inquire about it for foreign transactions using Apple Pay.

Hey Jeff, not really... but now i come to think of it, i should have probably asked them... this issue occurred in the middle of my trip where i did successfully top up on two separate times, that's why it made me only focus on Apple Pay issue and didn't occur to me that it could also be ICOCA issue... but why could I top up twice before then...confusing...
