Lacie not backing up

I have had a LaCie backup for many years. All of a sudden it tells me it won’t back up and possibly anti virus is stopping the backups. I have not changed anything about my Mac at all. It’s a 17” desktop that I’ve had for many years. I save pdfs on it. Use the internet and have photos in it. Simple. Is it possible that LaCie would just die? Any help is awesome. 🍎
