User switching doesn't work properly in macOS Sonoma (Part 2) - Workaround

Starting a continuation thread because it was no longer possible to reply in this thread:

User switching doesn't work properly in m… - Apple Community

I use two different accounts on my M1 Max with Sonoma 14.6.1, and have been randomly plagued by the problems described in the thread above - User switching randomly stops working once in a while, and the only solution I had previously to switch to the other user was to log out the current user, which is of course irritating if you have a lot of context running.

Using the "Fast user switching" icon or the lock screen to switch user doesn't work.

However, I've now found a much better workaround for this bug than logging out. When user switching fails, click Apple Icon -> Restart -> Switch User.

This immediately takes you to the user selection screen, and suddenly selecting a different user actually works! Even better, from now the lock screen and fast user switching with touch id will also start working again. No need to lose any context by logging out or rebooting.

So this is obviously a bug, and the action above fixes it until next time it occurs.

With this workaround, the bug is barely even a nuisance.
