Just purchased a new MacBook pro with Sonoma 14.6 on it and every time I try to connect my ExFAT 4T EHD it takes up to 10 minutes to finally access the folders. The files are take a while to open as well.
I've read something about Apple changing the ExFAT format but didn't dive into the weeds on it.
Does anyone else have this same issue with an EHD? Has anyone found a remedy to it?

Unless the drive is moving from MacOS computers to Microsoft Windows computer ?
There is zero need to use exFat
Do you need to have the EHD formatted ExFAT? If you're not using the EHD with a Windows machine there's no good reason to have it formatted as such.
If not then save the files on it to some other volume temporarily and reformat the drive as APFS. Then copy the files back.
