My Mac (book air) won't use my personal voice for spoken content

I'm doing a self guided study but I cannot read text too long as my vision becomes distorted and I get headaches. I started using the spoken content feature (opt+esc) to read my study material but the robotic sounding voices don't work for me so I went through the process to set up my personal voice, but now I can't get it to read in my voice. The following details are true:

Hardware: MacBook Air M2, 2022

Chip: Apple M2

OS: Mac OS Sequoia 15.0.1

Settings: "live speech" turned on with my personal voice selected as well as "spoken content" turned on with my personal voice selected

MacBook Air, macOS 15.0

Hi c.los_007

welcome to the Apple (user-to-user) Community!

Re: "My Mac (book air) won't use my personal voice for spoken content"

Seems personal voice works with text-to-speech, using the "Live Speech" feature.

ie: Personal voice is created to speak for you, if / when you need it to communicate with others, instead of speaking yourself.

Apple support's online article: Create a Personal Voice on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac - Apple Support

says you can:

"Use your Personal Voice to type to speak in FaceTime and phone calls, assistive communication apps, and in-person conversations".

You may need to choose another of the voices available to read the screen using spoken content.

If you want, you can preview the different voices available, and choose one to change it to ... eg: to one of the Siri voices, and /or a voice with your country's accent.

There's a (non-Apple) video online that describes how to change the voice, set the speed, and more.

All the best with your self guided study! :-)
