Contacts App on Mac Desktop

I use iCloud contacts for all my contacts. When I open the contacts app on the Mac it shows there is nothing there. So, I have enabled/disabled, deleted the address book and reopened, etc.- still no contacts.

So I exported the contacts from iCloud and went to import into the app on the Mac. It came up and said that all the cards were duplicates. But nothing is in the contacts app. Even if I import all of them and say "New", still nothing shows up. Screenshot below of what I am seeing.

It doesn't seem to be a sync issue but a display issue. Just to reiterate, I have deleted the address book in the folders, turned sync and enable account on and off, restarted the Mac every time.

At this point I don't know what else to do. I don't want to reinstall the whole OS.

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

When the Duplicate notification appeared

Is it possible it was because all the contacts were " On My Mac " as the naming denotes

Much like email in Mail application

One can have email in various folders that Sync to a cloud Based email account

You can also have email that are Stored Only on the computer visa vie " On My Mac "

So, I have tried safe mode and still same result.

I believe it is the contacts app itself because if I try to add a new contact, the app crashes.

I have tried dragging the contacts app to the trash can so I could reload, but it won't delete.

Any suggestions on how to delete the app completely and then reload?
