Outlook attachment download function broken

I am running Sonoma 14.5 on a MacBook Pro (M2). When I receive an attachment in Outlook, I often use the "Preview" or "Download" functions in the menu that pops up when I click the arrow to the right of each attachment. That menu is now greyed out and those functions no longer work. This happened from one day to the next without me changing any settings. I can still download the file by double-clicking on it, which opens it, and then I can save it. What happened? Is there a way to fix it?

Thank you!

We use Outlook at work. Very similar symptoms to what you describe started to occur a day or two ago. You may also be able to open the file from the File => Open menu in Outlook. You can also download it by clicking Download All but the Save As is more convenient because you could specify the location to download, whereas Download All just goes to the Downloads folder only.

I reported the issue and our IT people reproduced the problem on their Macs, and noted other users were reporting the same thing. We are a fairly large user of Microsoft products and our IT people are investigating further and talking to Microsoft about this. In the meantime we were told to continue using those same workarounds, which are annoyances but not showstoppers. I am expecting a fix will come soon in an update or new version.

Hi,

I had a user of mine encounter the same issue, and it appears it's resulting from the latest update to Outlook (Classic) for Mac, with version number 16.90.2 (24102719).

If you follow the instruction found here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/how-to-revert-to-previous-version-of-word-office/c9e27fcb-457a-4346-837d-23ae5dbde258

and roll back to version 16.90.1 (24102013) of Outlook, this resolves the issue.

Don't forget to disable Automatic updates in Office, and set a reminder to re-test the bug, and re-enable update in ~1 week, so you don't end up running unpatched Office software, going forward.
