How to choose which birthdays to get alerts for on my iPhone?

Hello! Is there a way for me to be able to choose which contact birthdays I’m alerted for?

I don’t need or want notifications for every last birthday in my phone, but I don’t want to stop getting alerted for some of them.

Thank you!

The answer is yes and no.

It sounds as if you are using the built-in iPhone Birthdays calendar which can be activated by selecting it from the list of your calendars shown when you touch on the Calendars label at the foot of the app's screen. This is a blunt instrument and will generate an alert for all of the birthdate entries you have put into your Contacts app.

I ceased to use this calendar long ago and don't have it visible. Instead, I created a new calendar called, not surprisingly, Birthdays. From events in this calendar I can set alerts for individual birthdays, or not at all if I don't need to have an alert.

It's a bit of work if you have lots of people you want to have in your Birthdays calendar, but it is worth it for the flexibility.
