Macbook Air M1 2020 Battery Life

Hi,

I have a brand new Macbook air (M1, 2020). I was testing its battery and the charge came down from 80% to 30% in 8 hours. During this time I was just browsing the web but not streaming any videos. Is this performance normal? I thought MacBook Air has 18 hours of battery life and I seem to be getting around 10 hours.

The battery life spec is dependent on usage. But do the math on your numbers: your battery used 50% (80-30) of its charge in 8 hours, meaning a full charge should give you ~16 hours of use and that's not far off 18 hours.

You can also see if there are processes running in the background. For example, if you set up your Mac from another computer (via Migration Assistant) or copied over a lot of data, your Mac will index that for Spotlight searching and that runs in the background and takes some time.
