LaCie won't show media in FCP that exists when opened in finder.

Hey,

I have been storing Final Cut Pro media on a LaCie external drive. Since I connected the Drive to my friends Mac to share footage, I have been unable to access project media and folders on LaCie when importing and editing through Final Cut Pro. The disk appears in my library however will not show media that is still accessible in finder. I have the Missing Plug In alert when the drive is connected. My permissions are set to custom access. Wondering how I could fix this problem or if Apple can assist me.

Thanks.

I had a similar problem a week ago.

I plugged in an HDD, it appeared on the desktop, I opened it and the window was empty!

Disk Utility also showed the drive as empty!

I can't remember exactly what I did but it probably included disconnecting and reconnecting and eventually it started behaving normally.

Later on a USB thumb drive did the same.

Dodgy USB socket? No idea.

Two important things:

1) FCP needs to have "Full Disk Access" in System Settings->Privacy & Security

2) You should only use drives formatted as APFS or HFS Extended with FCP - especially for storing your libraries. Other formats, typically used with Windows machines, like ExFAT and NTFS lack the sort of metadata support that FCP requires, and you risk corrupting your libraries - a problem that we see around here often. It is ok to use these to transfer data between machines, but not to use them for active work with FCP.
