How to stop apple music from launching automatically?

I loathe the fact that Apple Music launches automatically nearly every time I pick up my ear buds. I have seen lots of similar questions and frustrations, but no clear resolution. This is so invasive and maddening that it's making me question my lifetime of loyalty to Apple products.

How to fix?

I was having that problem every time I powered OFF any Bluetooth headphones or speakers. (Which made absolutely no sense to me.)

The only solution I've found was to download and install the totally free noTunes.app from https://github.com/tombonez/noTunes

Add it as a login item at System Settings > General > Login Items > Open at Login.

This places a menubar icon of a 🎵 with a circle around it. Click it to toggle it on or off. When it has the diagonal line through it (Music.app is disabled), the Music.app will not open even if you select it in Launchpad or the Dock.

Now if only there was a similar utility to stop the Photos app from launching every time I plug my iPhone in.
