"The disk you attached was not readable by this computer"

I have a Mac Mini 2023 with an external CD drive.

I have a Recorded Books, Brilliance Audio MP3-CD (not a cd that will play in an old CD player but the special version of this). Its an audiobook.

It will not play on my newer Mac Mini. It will not play on my 2013 nor 2012 macbooks either.

There appear to be many people with the same challenge, but most of the responses fail to understand the type of CD or fail to understand that the mac will not even show the disc as available in Finder, let alone import in Music or Books.

there is a better description of the challenge in the 2023 thread. The disk is not damaged and will play in other devices. The external drive works fine with normal cd's burned with audio tracks in MP3 format.

This is something else.
