Why isn't my brightness working on my MacBook Air?

Screen is almost too dark to read. F1 & F2 buttons dont work and when I go to system settings, Displays, the box doesn't offer any options that Help suggests. No brightness bar, nothing.

  1. Choose Apple menu  > System Settings.
  2. Click Keyboard in the sidebar.
  3. Click the Keyboard Shortcuts button on the right.
  4. Click Function Keys in the sidebar.
  5. Turn on “Use F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys”.

If you don't see the “Use F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" setting, you might be using a keyboard not made by Apple, and you might need a third-party keyboard utility to change the keyboard functions. Check with your keyboard manufacturer for more information
