My current firmware is A2698 however the latest firmware is showing as 7A305 on the Apple site. I've tried allsorts to perform the update including disconnecting and forgetting the EarPods and reconnecting but it doesn't seem to want to go through the update process. How can I force the update?

Plugged into my Mac then unplugged then plugged it back in etc. now at 7A305. . . Plugged into the Mac, then opened the case , allowed device connection, then iPods will be a selection on the Mac system settings menu. The firmware version is listed as one of the information items. As I just mentioned, I had to do this a few times before it updated to 7A305.
A2698 is the model number, not the firmware. . . Look for firmware version. My model A2698 currently uses 7A302 firmware. . .
