Pages for iPads does not do simple calculation using formulas

Contrary to all the information on the web and Apple website I cant get pages to do simple calculations with tables and cells, which it says it can.

I have tried doing what the apple website says and adding an equals sign to a cell but it does not bring up the formula cell it only adds an equals sign. I tried using their invoice template and a new blank document but it didn't work in either.

Im using a 5th generation iPad Pro with iOS 18.01

Am I missing something or does it just not do it?

iPad Pro, iPadOS 18

This issue was raised a few weeks back. I have spent a great deal of time experimenting with alternative keystroke combinations besides the expected '=' character to no avail. A Pages table cell will allow you to paste a formula that has been copied to the clipboard from a Numbers table cell. However, only the result of that formula is pasted and I see no means to edit that formula once pasted.

At this point, this Pages issue may be fixed in iPadOS 18.1 or some forthcoming update of Pages for iPadOS, but that is without certainty. I sent feedback about this glaring issue to the Pages for iPadOS product team back in September. For this functionality to be undetected before product release is quite d*****g of the product team's QC measures.

I am using an M4 iPad Pro with Pages v14.2 and iPadOS 18.0.1.
