how to add a local calendar on iPhone Calendar app in iOS 18.x or macOS 15.x

Whenever I try to add a new calendar account on iPhone or MacBook using iOS 18.x or macOS 15.x, it gives prompt to choose any of the cloud based accounts.

Is it possible to add a local device based calendar which is not connected to any cloud based account, and also include that local calendar in the iCloud backup taken from the apple device.

Apple used to make it easy to add a Mac-only calendar which did not interact with an Internet-based service. This option disappeared from view at some time in the past few years and if you look at the support document Add or delete calendars on Mac there is no mention of this option. However, it still exists.

Open your Mac calendar and click on the calendar icon at the top left. If you right click just below the last calendar title in the 'Other' category you will see a 'New Calendar' option. Select this and a new calendar will appear at the top of the calendars list in a new category called On My Mac.

As this is not one of your iCloud calendars it will not be part of your iCloud syncing. I imagine it will back up as part of your Time Machine regime.

I haven't looked at any options in iOS.
