Before you do anything, make sure you have a good backup just in case something goes wrong.
Second, I highly recommend you create a bootable macOS USB installer so you have more options for reinstalling macOS if something goes wrong since you won't have access to Internet Recovery Mode (Command + Option + R) until after installing macOS 10.13+.
