MP4 won't autoplay correctly in Keynote

When in Play in my Keynote presentation ( v14.2 in Sequoia), the mp4 on a slide won't autoplay. In fact, when I click on it Keynote kicks me out of Play mode, I get the white circle and right-facing triangle in the middle of the screen, then when I click that button the video will play. Strangely, the handles on the video's borders appear as well.

I tried converting the file to .GIF and .MOV, and the result is the same. I enabled/disabled Start movie on click and tried changing Start Movie in Build In to None. That didn't help, either.

Two things come to mind.

First, there's an option to 'Start Movie on Click' in the inspector (Select the movie -> Format -> Movie -> Start movie on click). If that's on you'll need to click to start the movie.

Second is that you're actually seeing the audience screen and not the presenter's screen. Movies don't auto-play on the presenter's screen unless explicitly enabled, so if you're looking at the presenter's screen that would make sense, although other things would likely be amiss if this were the case.
