  • There are a couple drives that are full (less than 15% available).
  • You have Google updater software. Follow the instructions at https://chromeisbad.com for instructions on how to completely remove. Reinstall FCP from the AppStore after removing all of Google's cruft.
  • You have lots of audio plugins. Perhaps one or more is incompatible with MacOS 15 and/or FCP 10.8.1. To temporary disable all audio plugins, rename /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins to something like Plug-Ins.disabled and reboot.
  • An easy thing to try is deleting FCP Settings/Preference. Hold option and command while launching FCP and choose Delete. FCP will open the default Untitled library. Reopen the library you were working on. Set the Preferences/Settings back to the way you like (disable background rendering, etc.) and see if there's improvement.

Others will hopefully chime in with more suggestions.

The Advice about removing Window Defender is good. However, the problem is a MacOS kernel panic, and due to improvements in MacOS, no kernel extensions are allowed. Some are listed in the log, but none are actually loaded, so they shouldn't be causing a problem (however I suggest removing them anyway).

There are some system extensions but those run in user mode and should not cause a kernel panic.

A user-mode application is not responsible for a kernel panic. There is no source code in FCP which could be changed to avoid a kernel panic. A previously-mentioned error mentioned a ProResHW driver -- that is a MacOS component, not an FCP component.

Johny-J has a nice new M3 Max MacBook Pro, so I would not expect an internal hardware problem. However in some cases, external devices can trigger a kernel panic. E.g, if a drive fails to respond within a period, especially during shutdown or bootup that might happen. It is still the fault of MacOS since that should not cause a kernel panic but infrequently this has been observed.

Therefore a good troubleshooting procedure is temporarily disconnect all possible external devices and try to reproduce the problem. E.g, all non-essential storage devices, hubs, monitors, video/audio interfaces etc.

You can also run Apple hardware diagnostics: Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac - Apple Support

This is a lightweight test, so an error-free run does *not* imply a clean "bill of health." If it's not a rigorous, definitive test, why run it? Because it is easy and can find some problems. If you have access to an Apple Store the Genius Bar has more stringent overnight and multi-day bench tests.

I'm having the same issue, and the Kernel Extensions in backtrace are also the same (see below). Is it safe to assume there is an issue with the AppleProResHW driver?

      Kernel Extensions in backtrace:
         com.apple.driver.AppleProResHW(425.3)[230FF068-ADDE-3083-8190-5A5FD329BB63]@0xfffffe0023cc6e90->0xfffffe0023ce9813
            dependency: com.apple.driver.AppleARMPlatform(1.0.2)[B0D2E9D2-A720-3F97-95F2-ABEED72C3D12]@0xfffffe0022fb96c0->0xfffffe002300d4e7

Not necessarily. The entire Kernel Panic log is needed because there will be a few important lines throughout the report. Reviewing several reports helps us determine if there are any patterns to the panics.

The EtreCheck report helps us to figure out possible causes as well as it can provide other clues that may be relevant.

Try running Disk Utility First Aid on the hidden Container. Within Disk Utility click "View" and select "Show All Devices" so the hidden Container appears on the left pane of Disk Utility. Even if the First Aid summary says everything is "Ok", click "Show Details" and scroll back through the report to see if any unfixed errors are listed. If there are errors, then run First Aid again until the errors are gone. If after several scans the errors remain, then try running First Aid while booted into Recovery Mode. Many of the crash logs shown in the EtreCheck report appear to be related to files & storage. Plus the write speed test is slower than expected.

Uninstall NordVPN as it is worthless. VPNs don't provide the privacy or security people think they do....these consumer VPN vendors are just preying on people's fears in order to separate people from their money. The only time a VPN provides security is when connecting to an employers network to access servers & services on the employer's network.

fileproviderd is using a good bit of resources & I believe is associated with iCloud file syncing. I see you may have other cloud file syncing services as well. Perhaps they are doing more background work than you realize.

You may also want to disconnect all external devices to see if that makes any difference just in case one of them is causing a problem.

You have some USB2 based hubs/docks connected to your laptop. If you connect a USB3 device to a USB2 hub/dock, then performance of that drive will be severely crippled. Plus connecting a USB2 device to a USB3 hub can cause performance issues for other USB3 devices connected to the USB3 hub unless the USB3 hub & USB3 devices all support the UASP protocol which prevents slower USB1/2 devices from causing performance issues with connected USB3 devices.

Post the entire Kernel Panic log here using the "Additional Text" icon which looks like a piece of paper on the forum editing toolbar. Kernel Panic logs are located in "/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports", but macOS may relocate it to the "Retired" subfolder. Kernel Panic logs usually have "kernel" and/or "panic" in their file name.

You have a lot of stuff installed. I am not familiar with most of that software so hopefully another more knowledgeable contributor will chime in here to address the software & extensions you have installed since I am not a macOS software expert. Just make sure all that third party software are completely up to date with the most recent versions and that they are also compatible with macOS 15.x Sequoia. It would not surprise me that some of that third party software & extensions are not yet compatible with Sequoia.

Windows Defender anti-virus software is most likely causing the problem since it runs at a very low level within macOS where it can cause the most trouble. Anti-virus apps, cleaning/optimizer apps, and third party security software is not needed on a Mac, plus they usually cause more problems than they solve since they interfere with the normal operation of macOS at a very low level. If this is required by your school or employer, then you may need to discuss the issues with them.

It also appears your laptop has some configuration profiles installed. Perhaps from using ScreenTime? Or from another source?

If Windows Defender is not causing the problem, then try disconnecting all external devices to see if maybe one of them is causing a problem.

Also make sure all of the third party software is completely up to date with their most recent versions and that they are fully compatible with macOS Sequoia.
