Why can’t I change text color in Markup on my iPhone 13 Pro Max?

Agree! Impossible to change text color now and it’s maddening. Was easier before. Apple if it’s not broke don’t fix it! Revert back so editing of screenshots is easier, including changing the text color!

Thanks for posting those instructions but that is SO complicated and takes way too much time!!

Apple PLEASE change Markup back. This version is way too time consuming!

Same issues here. Had a 12 Pro, updated to iOS 18, immediately noticed that changing text color in markup wouldn’t work, almost as if the color screen was force closing. It fixed itself for a couple days, then the same issue came back. My husband has a 14 Pro, my son has a 14, and their markup works just fine. I just upgraded to a 16 Pro since I was eligible for an upgrade and my 12 Pro became so laggy. I have the same issues with markup with my 16 Pro as I did with my 12 Pro, so it’s not a phone issue. The issue seems very user specific, but I do think it’s an issue with iCloud. I can save a photo to my files, open up the photo within the files app, and markup works just fine. It does not work through the photo app.

I also have been experiencing this since the latest update.

I figured out how to change it. 

1-Add text

2-Double tap the text and  select all the text. 

3-Select “Format”

4-Select “More”

5-Select the color circle

6-Tap the screen to leave the color selection screen. 

7-While the Format menu is showing, single tap the text you want to edit. The other text edit bubble will appear. 

8-Select Aa 

9-Select your color

still wont change color for me

We know that’s how it’s suppose to work. That doesn’t work for us.

Hi, I’m on iPhone 16 Plus now running IOS VRS 18.2 and have been having issues with this too, but have found two ways to change the color of the text in ‘Markup’ mode. The first way:

This has been happening ever since I updated as well. It is the most frustrating thing. I followed the recommended steps as suggested by another (which was way too complicated). And nope, didn’t work.

I was hoping the latest update 18 would fix the photo markup color text issue, but it didn’t! Use to be easy to change markup text color, but now when you click on edit, add text box & type, it will not let you change the color of the text no matter what I do! The box disappears as soon as you try to click on the color. I’ve been changing the color of the markup text for years! Why is this such an issue?

Here is the second way I found to work. Hope this helps. (forgot to mention that at screenshot 4 - highlight all the text and you’ll get a popup bar - go to ‘Format’ and then click on ‘More’).

Go to mark up

go to add text

go Aa (type setting)

change color

color will be set, drag text to location and complete.

it only works for me if I take a screenshot and edit it before I save it.
