New Password App is making my life more difficult than it already was.
I prefer to stay in the Apple app universe whenever possible, so I access our servers using Safari on my Mac Studio. Part of my job as admin for our various clients is to set up new email and other accounts associated with their respective domains. Years ago, when I set up a new account for a user, I would assign the account an easily shared, temporary password in cPanel's account management utility. The client user was always instructed to change the password upon their first login. This worked well.
In the past couple of Mac OS version updates, the built-in password manager became more intrusive, always jumping in instantly to suggest secure passwords that I didn't need or want. I disliked the time-wasting interruption, but at least I could select the "Choose my own password" option and create the easy password I needed.
Apparently, in Sequoia's Safari 18.0.1 with the addition of the Password App, the "Choose my own password" option has been eliminated. I just discovered this when trying to assist a client with email password issues. When I attempted to create a new password for the account, the only options offered were "Create a password" and "Create a password without special characters." I wasted 30 minutes of my time and my client's, trying to share and use the force-fed password.
There seem to be many advantages with the new Password App, but treating users like they're too stupid to choose their passwords by prohibiting them from doing it seems so Microsoft-like. Or perhaps someone can tell me what I'm missing.
