I am unable to update my iPad to iPadOS 18.0.1

I have a IPad 8th generation with 32GB storage.

I have removed all apps (except some apple apps) all photos, videos songs.

My Ipad storage shows 16.58 of 32GB used 15.42 available.

my IPAD os (17.7) is using 10.01 GB and system data is using 5.57 - or 15.58

I try to updated to 18.0.1 (3-4 times) and after a while it states it needs more room. Seems to die when it had downloaded about 6GB.

Any ideas?

It is generally recommended that you maintain 4-6GB of free space at all times - as your iPad needs some temporary space to complete some tasks - such as performing system software updates.

A system software update requires sufficient space to be downloaded, unpacked and verified prior to installation - major version updates (such as updating from iPadOS 17.x to iPadOS 18) requiring considerably more space than an incremental point-update. After the update is successfully completed, temporary files are automatically deleted - returning free space.

If your internal storage is full, or is insufficient for the task that you need to perform, your only option is to better manage the storage that you have - and delete unused Apps or unneeded data.

“Offloading” Apps can be a helpful method of creating temporary space for a software update.

External storage options can often help with managing limited internal storage. Depending upon your iPad model, the iPad will either have a Lightning or USB-C port - and may therefore require either an Adapter or USB hub to connect the USB Storage device. If your iPad has a Lightning port, you’ll need an Apple Lightning to USB3 Camera Adapter:

Thanks

I have deleted all apps except the apps that Apple will not allow me to delete Safari, messages, on my ipad, icloud drive, apple inc, photos (but no photo are on the ipad (including the recently deleted), maps cloud data & cloud health data. all of these apps =1.1 gb

Now

My Ipad storage shows 16.6 of 32GB used with 15.4 available.

of the 16.6

my IPAD IOS (17.7) is using 10.01 GB and system data is using 5.57 - or 15.58

SO that leaves about 1GB in use by the apps

However when i look at the properties of my ipad on a windows machine

it shows 17.4 used

and 14.6 available

=32

what a condescending answer! first of all this is a major upgrade not an update! iPadOS 18.1.1 requires about 20GB of room to store it, unpack it, and install it ... could not find how big the footprint is once it is installed. Point is with a 32gb space on my iPad 7th Gen I would have to delete almost everything to install this upgrade... and why should one have to do that in the first place.
