CarPlay not working with IOS 18

After upgrading to iOS 18, my CarPlay is completely messed up. It is not connecting to my 2024 Toyota Tundra. When it does connect, it plays music from the wrong speaker, the one dedicated for announcements. If I touch my phone, it gets disconnected. In short, it's a complete mess. I thought my truck's entertainment system was the problem, but when I checked with another phone running an older version of iOS, everything worked perfectly.

It's not always the iOS update's fault!  Many things can cause phone problems.  If you tell people you think it's an iOS update, it might make it harder to fix or find a solution for the real issue.

Remember, the right question often leads to the solution! Please look in the right direction.

iOS updates aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. The majority of the issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.

Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors. This could be a pure coincidence that the iOS update affected the iPhone functions.

Before initiating a standard iOS update, it's advisable to create a backup. Have you completed this step? If yes, proceed with the restoration from the backup.

I am so frustrated at Apple not admitting that they are working on an issue with CarPlay after the iOS 18 update. I have reported problems between my 2024 Honda Ridgeline and my iPhone running iOS 18 three times now all on the same ticket. Before iOS 18, I had zero problems at all with CarPlay in my new Honda. It worked flawlessly and was 100% reliable. Since iOS 18 and now iOS 18.1, it has become buggy and unstable. I have worked with Apple to try different settings to try uninstalling it and reinstalling it in the vehicle. There have been no changes to the firmware or software in the Honda and it's the same phone. The only difference is the iOS 18 update. And when I'm on the phone with Apple, I keep stating that there are a large numerous number of people reporting that iOS 18 is now giving major issues with CarPlay and people are complaining that it's basically useless. I don't know what else to do.

The main issue I'm having with iOS 18 and CarPlay is that it has become unstable and will start acting erratic and then reboot itself. Not the entire iOS on the iPhone reboot just CarPlay. The screen on my head unit in the Honda sometimes will freeze and then all of a sudden it goes blank because CarPlay shuts down and the main interface pops up from Honda. And then CarPlay automatically reconnects, but it's not as stable as it was before and I just end up shutting it off. This has happened when I have Apple Maps open and running, it has happened when I've been streaming Apple Music, it has happened when I've been using the Pandora app. And it is also happened at least twice when I've been on phone calls as well. Just today I was on a phone call with my best friend and there was a gap in the sound and then the phone call continued and I got to pit my stomach, knowing exactly what I thought was gonna happen. There were a couple more gaps in the sound, and then the screen went blank and the main interface from Honda popped up, and then CarPlay automatically restarted and I couldn't hear her at all on the phone call and it disconnected. So I actually had to pick up my iPhone and call her back and put it on speakerphone and put it in my cupholder and not use CarPlay at all to be able to talk with her.

What is even more frustrating is that when I called back on November 8 to let them know it still wasn't working because on the first call at the beginning of October we tried a few things and thought it might be fixed, but I had to wait to see if it would re-create itself because I don't know exactly how to force it to happen and when., the technician said well our engineers would like to see a video of what happens. Now y'all do understand that I'm driving down a highway when it occurs and I was just recommended to then take a video of it while it's occurring. Does anyone else see a problem with the suggestion and the liability Apple holds from telling somebody while driving a vehicle to now grab something else to take a video of it because the phone CarPlay is connected to is not able to be used to do that because it's in my pocket?

So tonight I called in and gave him all the latest of what occurred today and asked him just to please make sure this gets on the case. He then asked me well. Maybe there's a firmware update for your vehicle. I kept my cool and I stated that is not acceptable to ask me that because I've already explained to you the only variable in the equation that has changed is iOS 18. And I am very surprised that he could not see in all of their knowledge sharing database everyone else that has called in with these CarPlay issues with iOS 18 and realize that I'm not the only one.

Come on Apple, fix this with a new patch/release or at least admit that you're working on some known issues. Don't lose the faith of your devoted users.

I have a Lexus NX since iOS 18 I cannot hear people through the system CarPlay when using the phone I have to hit the speaker on the phone to hear the other person hear me. I can hear them, but they can’t hear me through the microphone that’s supposed to work with CarPlay in the car

This is definitely has to be a problem with iOS 18 because I never had any issues prior to the iOS and I’ve had the Lexus for years

What should we do? It’s annoying.

Interestingly, enough if I use the phone via Bluetooth and not with a hardwired connection, it works just fine The car is not a car that allows for wireless connection So I’m not sure exactly what the deal is it’s a pain in the butt
