adding m4a files to Apple Music

I have tried dropping m4a files into the 'recently added' window, moving file to 'automatically add to Music' folder and importing thru drop down menu. Music will play the files but not add them to the library. I used to be able to drag and drop files but since I got a new MacBook this no longer works. Does anyone have any suggestions?
