Applications not in Applications folder

When I click on applications, it is empty.

It sounds like you are looking in your home directory. You can have an Applications folder there too. It will even have the same icon from the system Applications folder. Most people don't have an Applications folder in their home directory. But if you did, it would likely be empty.
