Is there a way to revert photos app after IOS 18

I updated to IOS 18 but the photos app, an app i use frequently, is really driving me insane. Everything is so unorganized and all over the place now. I’m wondering if there’s a way to get it back to how it looked in IOS 17? I just can’t stand how messy it is now and my albums are at the bottom and i prefer having my recent photos in an album of their own. Thinking if I can’t revert I’ll just find a new third party photo app.

IOS18 Photos how can I go back to previous IOS17 Photos? I hate the new format. I don’t find “Recents” any more which was my most used folder. And get rid of the useless clutter Apple has stuck on Photos, most of which I will never use. Update is all screwed up and I will probably use Google or other app from now on.

Hello~ If Apple doesn’t support downgrading then it will not be discussed here and as to “why” …this is Apple’s playground …so Apple’s rules. Before I update…always check out what’s going to change even if I wait a bit before doing so to gather information about the changes. Security is my main concern and I can find a way to work with or around the rest. I can’t think of anything that changes at all that is ever perfectly suited to everyone’s needs.

Thanks, but these are only workrounds for your workflow. I use my phone camera and my proper camera for completely different tasks and I need a way to separate them so I can view one set or the other. I can't do that because Photos no longer has a folder/view/collection that only shows, and lets me manage, pics I've taken with my phone. I'm not alone in this way of working and many of the complaints about the new photos are specifically about this use-case.

Again, you could use Recent Days to sort, which may make it a bit easier to separate images.

Recent Days doesn't work on my phone. If I look at Recent Days then the most recent pics shown are from May this year. I've taken pics with all my cameras, including iphone, since then and they are all on my phone, but according to Recent Days, the last pics I took were in May. I've checked and all the pics I've taken since then have got valid dates but the app doesn't acknowledge them. If I search "11 Nov" it shows me the pics I took with my phone on that date but, according to Recent Days, they don't exist.

Sure I can search by iPhone or by date etc. but now I've got to hit half a dozen buttons to do what I used to be able to do with one click.

My theory is that they're making the app as difficult to use as possible so that when they come along with AI to 'help' with photos organization we'll all greet it with joy and rapture.

Thanks Gar. I've done everything with the phone bar a full restore - which I'm not doing I've re-dated a few pics to see if it helps, but it doesn't. For some reason Recent Days can't see past May. I only use Photos on the phone to either search my synched from Mac folders (where my 'proper' photos are) or look in Recents for pics I've taken recently. Fortunately Search still works, but I'm half expecting that too to be removed or downgraded so AI can be pushed. My workround when I take a pic with my phone that I know I'll need down the line is to save it in Files so I know where I can find it when I need it.

I too never use Photos on Mac - I've got better image management software. I had wondered if the fact that I don't use it on Mac was causing the problems with Recent Days. Seems not.

Thank you for your detailed advice. I still haven’t updated but will have to of course. When I get some uninterrupted time will bite the bullet. I don’t mind change but just don’t want to lose the albums I have created which include photos copied from friends and Facebook, not just iPhone pics.. All 300 albums. Your description makes it clearer. And I do back up all devices to iCloud. (MacBook Air, iMac and iPad). I have an iPhone 15 Pro and am leaving for Europe on Wednesday so more pics will be added!!
