itunes backup doesn't work with one user on my laptop, but does work on another user

I have an HP Envy laptop that works very well. I have my main user account and additional user accounts.

Under my main user account, whenever I launch iTunes to go a sync or backup to my computer, iTunes crashes. This has been happening for quite some time now.

However, when I switch over to another user account on the SAME laptop, and I launch iTunes to do a sync and backup to my computer (same iPhone, by the way), it goes through without incident.

I can not figure out what is causing the crash under one user account and works fine under the second user account.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes numerous times (always from the Microsoft store, because I have been unsuccessful in downloading and installing from any other location).

Anyone have any ideas???

Type in %appsdata% in the search box in the start menu and press enter. This should open the folder C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming. Cut and paste these two folders from their current location to say the desktop:

  • C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\Cookies
  • C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\Preferences

They try launching iTunes to see if it opens normally. Your preferences for media folder location, keep & copy, rating stars, etc. will reset to default values so check these and set accordingly if needed.
