How can I turn off Apple Intelligence on my iPhone?

I’m interested in how to to turn off part, but not all, of the upcoming AI. The community forums on AI so far have been either folks don’t want any AI, or folks who think the first group should go live in a remote cabin without WiFi, while the rest of us have to embrace everything Apple hands us, apparently including Siri having hallucinations.

To the first group: You already use it routinely. Deal. Adjust. Research.

To the second group: Most tech reviews are posing the same issue I ask about: Some of the AI seems useful, some not, some is potentially dangerous to our privacy. And it’s not so clear that ChatGPT won’t do an end-around to our data.

So I don’t have to be a Luddite to seek selectivity in how we use the latest and greatest tech. An on-off toggle isn’t very selective.

Unless you allow it, ChatGPT will do nothing. Integration of ChatGPT with Apple Intelligence is strictly opt in when it becomes available.

For the other currently existing features (none of which use ChatGPT in any way), it's on. There is no selection to be had. But you can always choose not to use them.

Once Apple Intelligence is enabled in Settings ➜ Apple Intelligence & Siri a switch will appear allowing you to turn it off. If you have not yet enabled it, then it's off by default.

So how come there was a message saying “downloading”? I wish I made a recording. Extra software was definitely downloaded. There was also a message “preparing”.
Don't know. I don't recall seeing that on any of the several devices I updated. But I could be wrong.

It definitely downloads. I don't remember if it stated how many GB it takes to download.
