Geolocation not working after the macOS sequoia update

After I updated to MacOS Sequoia update, nowhere in the system(websites, apps, system apps, maps, location of the laptop in locator) i could get geolocation to work. In the settings all those apps are allowed access to geolocation, and it is enabled.

Any news on this?

brand new MBP M4 Pro here, I have exactly the same issue.

Location services is turned on but won't work. it DOES however work on google maps only on chrome - but not on Safari.

won't work on Maps (native app), and neither with Siri.

seems to work fine in Find My.

I had this same issue in Apple Maps and Safari after updating my 2020 MacBook Pro to Sequoia. Going into System Settings and turning the individual Location Services options for Apple Maps and Safari off and on again had no effect. The way I got it working was to turn Location Services off completely by unchecking the main option at the top, then turning it on again. Geolocation started working immediately in both Apple Maps and Safari.

For me it seems to be a Safari issue. Apple Maps work fine. But browser sites such as Google Maps, Met Office, BBC Weather, MeteoBlue are not working.

My Safari Location preferences are set to allow all.

OS Location Services are set to allow Safari to use Location Services.

No idea what is causing this but it is a massive pain.

MBP 2019 13" (intel chip)

I have the same issue after updating to MacOS 18.3

Privacy => Location => buttons is active, but apps like maps or weather are not working with location.

I tried to fix it with these steps:

  • restarted my Mac
  • restarted my wi-fi router
  • turned off/on Location buttons in Privacy
  • turned off/on wi-fi on my Mac
  • connected my Mac to my iPhone as a hotspot instead of wifi

None of these steps helped to solve the problem 🤷‍♂️

Any recommendations?

Turn off location services on your iPhone and then turn them back on. Make sure to be on the same WiFi so your Macbook can get the actual GPS coordinates from your Phone. Google maps on Chrome seems to be using a different method to find the location.

However, even by doing that it does work form me only when I first enter on a page. If I want to get the location again without refreshing the page in Safari, the permission is denied.

Ugly workarounds until, hopefully, in iOS 18.2 this will be solved...

Also, if my phone or mac has VPN tuned on it's goodbye to any location access :(

This based on my own discoveries in trying to figure this annoying issue while working on an app, so don't trust me 100% on it. I can't find the comment on this thread suggesting the same thing anymore.

Brand new!!!! MBP M4 Pro.

The same issue, nothing helps. I tried fixing it using terminal commands and reinstalled Mac OS from scratch, saving my data, but there were no results.

macOS version: 15.1.1 (24B2091)

Also, I have an MBP M1 2020, with Sequoia, and the geolocation services work fine.
