Notes app is crashing after iOS 18 update on my iPhone

Me too. Has there been a response from Apple?

I have been experiencing the same problem with “Notes” which are not getting opened at all, on my iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Yes, I updated yesterday evening and now my Notes App is completely unresponsive. Very disappointing. And I can’t seem to find a fix anywhere.

I have had noted crash several times. This problem is recent - only occurring in the last week (early December). I had not had the problem during my previous 2 months using iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Same here! So annoying, my notes app basically does not work-so slow and glitchy

Since an update about 3 months ago my notes is crashing. I called Apple support and they helped me through a rep hour process to re-sync to the cloud. The notes is still crashing?

As I mentioned previously, I found out that condition only happened while the "text format" window open. If I close the "text format" window, nothing happens no matter how many words I "look up."

I found the similar bug while I use the Journal app, the only difference is it will not crash Journal out directly, just the "look up" result could not display normally and close immediately.

On iPad OS I started out with very similar issues but my machine 11 inch m2 was next to my 10.2 inch machine which was updated properly (yea) and worked itself out over the next 24 hours not sure what I did but Apple must have built into their programming this type of help and backed up and updated my 11 inch air so it would appropriately download IOS 18. Previous attempts at recent backups and IPad OS 18 downloads were unsuccessful on my 11 inch air m2 most likely because I needed to pay closer attention to what was going on. Any way iPads work but IPhone is frozen and needs help beyond my ability. Probably a software issue, but may have been caused by not backing up properly and waiting patiently so as we say in the IT world arrg! I think what I am trying to convey is I could have saved a whole lot of issues by reading through the documentation first, properly backing up my devices and downloading the new IOS or OS afterwards. Very sorry for the novel. It may seem like a great deal to remember but it can save more time in the long run.

I let my phone power down and powered it back up through my Mac Air it took a bit. When the phone powered on all the apps were restored and I could use the phone again without any messages from Apple that this phone is lost or stolen. And being able to use the touch screen had been restored too.

Just an update to my previous post:

Unsyncing and resyncing did nothing. It made it worse because it jumbled up my notes out of their assigned folders. That was another few hours trying to sort a new mess.

Still lags and freezes every 2 seconds, making it unsuable.

Best thing to do is to report to Apple Support. I’ve just done so and shared this forum with them as so many people are affected.

The support person said they’ll pass this info and the forum link onto a specialist to look at who will contact me to discuss in a few days.

Also they said once the report from Apple Support is validated by their engineers, it’s usually included in the next ios update.

At least it’s visible to Apple Support as a few people have started reporting. Please report as that’s the only way the issue will be put to the attention of Apple.

The Notes App works fine on my iPhone 16 Pro Max (I have 864 notes) but not on my son’s iPhone 16 Pro Max (he has over 160,000 notes!). I think the problem may be with the amount of notes/size. Hopefully the fix is coming soon.
